You may not be aware that it is easy to use an iPad as a second monitor on your MacBook. This can be very useful for either:
-
Using the drawing/touch capability of an iPad during a zoom call initiated from the MacBook.
-
Simply giving you more display space when you are working.
1. To use the iPad's drawing/touch capability during a zoom call all you have to do is connect the iPad to the MacBook with a Lightning/USB cable. When you want to show the meeting what is on the iPad you simply share the screen from within the zoom call. This works with all school MacBooks & iPads and does not require any additional software or configuration.
2. To use the iPad as an additional monitor to the MacBook, in the same way you would use a classroom iMac and the projector, some preparation work is needed.

If you have a 2017 MacBook Air, you need to install apps on both the iPad and MacBook.
-
The app on the iPad is called "Duet Display" and is available in "Self Service" on the iPad.
-
The app for the MacBook is called "Duet" and is available here: macOS
-
The base version of the Duet apps requires you to connect the MacBook & iPad with a Lightning/USB cable
-
-
If you have a 2018 or newer MacBook Air running MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) you can use the built in feature called "Sidecar".
-
No software needs to be installed on either the MacBook or iPad.
-
Both the MacBook & iPad have to be signed into iCloud with the same AppleID.
-
You can either connect the MacBook & iPad wirelessly by enabling bluetooth on both devices or connecting them using a Lightning/USB cable.
